What if the thing that God asked you to give up was yourself? I have to admit when I thought about this I was like #SayWhat? After sitting there pondering if I heard him correctly I realized that without giving up yourself you can’t serve him. Romans 8:5-8 states: Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
You have to live a life totally committed to God in order to serve him. I have had this spiritual tugging on my heart that God was trying to help me see something that I needed to change. Then after reading Chapter 3 I realized it was me. I needed to give up control of my life. Let Him be the pilot and trust Him no matter what. We have had a lot of struggles and trials the past four years. However each time God has shown up in a way that only He could. He has seen us through health scares, deaths, unemployment, car issues, and many more. He was preparing me for this realization along the way. He was whispering, “Angie – Give it to me. Let me have it!!”
He wants my husband, children, fears, worries, thoughts, actions, finances, time, and energy. He desires control of all of this, and it isn’t because he is a controlling God it is because he is a loving God. If we have control of this then we can’t live the life he wants for us. The self-confidence gets in the way. As I move forward on this journey I want to get rid of self-confidence and live by God-confidence. I am not saying that we don’t value ourselves, God created us in His image, and we are His children. However when we hold on to our lives we can get in the way of the life that he has in store for us. John 10:10 says The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. God’s plans are so much better than our plans. He has asked me to give up my life for Him. Give him every single detail of my day. He wants me to start each day seeking Him and see what He has in store for that day.
My prayer today and everyday will be this:
Lord – I come to you with an expectant heart waiting for you to speak. Lead my feet on your path, give me your vision so that I see others through your eyes, let my hands and feet be your tools, and let the fruit of the Spirit fill my heart as I trust in you today. When people see me I want them to see you shining through so I can be a walking testament to your love and power. For you alone are worthy of praise. Lord if there is something that you want me to do show me Lord, I want nothing but your will.
This Bible study is radically changing my life. I am so looking forward to the rest of the study to see what God has in store for me and all of you!!
Saying Yes to God and holding my Palms up giving everything to him this week has been wonderful. God has shown up and blown our minds with his provisions. We have always said that we trust God to provide for us and for the past three years his provisions have blown us away. His timing always perfect and never a moment late. However, there was still one area that we continued to struggle in. However this week my husband and I both said, “Okay God it is your way this time. We trust you and know you know our need. We refuse to take it in our own hands.” The blessing we received because of that small little step has still got me speechless. He not only met the need he went over and beyond allowing us to help others also. IF you are struggling with an area in your life where you want to trust God but something is holding you back I ask that you just go to God with your Palms up and say – Okay God here it is. Take it and do with it as you see fit. We are going to trust you no matter how hard it gets. You will be amazed at how God will show up in your life. God loves us more than we can fathom and he is waiting to pour that love out on us. All we have to do is go to him and trust that he will provide for you. Now, I will tell you it might not be the way you would solve the problem, however God’s way is always better!!! Say Yes to God, believe that He loves you. Hold your Palms up and give him every aspect of your life.
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
“Our soul truly does long for a richer experience. What are some actions steps you can take each day to become more aware of God’s presence? How can you intentionally pursue God even in the middle of “life’s mundane activities?”
I am going to make it a mandate to spend time in God’s word every day. I have found myself getting caught up in daily life and just being too tired to even move or unwind by spending time playing mindless games. (By the way I still play the mindless games to unwind) I just realized that during some of that time instead of playing the games I could be spending that time studying God’s word. I was looking for a way to get back into studying when I discovered this Bible study. I knew that was God talking to me and letting me know that I needed to be a part of this so I said #YestoGod and joined. I can’t wait to see what He has in store for me. I have purposely liked or followed a lot of Christian sites on Facebook and Twitter so that I can continue to see everywhere I turn God’s word. I couldn’t begin to count the number of times that I logged into to Facebook and found someone had posted a verse that I needed to see that day. It has been wonderful. God is at work all around us. Sometimes we get so busy in life that it is sometimes hard to hear that still small voice of God. I am purposely doing this bible study and taking part in the Karen Kingsbury New Testament Challenge at the same time so that I can once again walk in “God – confidence” and let him be the driver of my life. I want out of the seed packet. I have missed the close relationship that I had with my God and I have felt his voice calling me back to Him. I look forward to spending time with all of you ladies on this journey. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for all of us.
